**************************************
Life History of Frank Beamon Hopkin
Frank Beamon Hopkin was born December 4, 1873, at Croydon, Utah. He was the third child of John and Mary Pennington Hopkin.
Frank was a frail child and required the special care of his mother and two older brothers. From time to time his strength seemed to leave his body and it would appear he would not live. On one occasion when the family, along with the village midwife and home nurse, was present, they felt it was apparent that little Frank would not survive. Upon the request of his mother, he was administered to by his father and his life was spared.
Frank spent most of his younger life close to his mother which had a profound effect on his later life and personality. His mother experienced the sadness of losing the next four children-two at birth and the other two only several months old. Staying at home gave Frank the opportunity to share her heavy work load and comfort her grieving heart.
He was born with a natural musical talent which he developed. By the time he completed the eight grade, he played the piano, violin, and had developed a lovely voice without taking a music lesson. As he grew into a handsome, talented young man, he played the violin and piano at dances and programs, and at funerals and church and other gathering throughout Weber Valley. Later in life he organized several orchestras, playing in parts of Wyoming and Utah, when he could leave his sheep ranching business.
He married Eliza Ann Francis, daughter of Samuel and Esther Francis, in the Salt Lake Temple, December 16, 1896. They made their home in Croydon, Utah, where he was engaged in farming and later became engaged in a sheep operation near Evanston, Wyoming. They had one son, Frank Francis Hopkin, born October 4, 1897, at Morgan, Utah.
While residing in Croydon, he was ordained bishop and served in this position for four years. He was a very compassionate and charitable man, as stated by E. Albert Wilde, one of his counselors: "Frank Hopkin was the most thoughtful and kindest bishop I have ever known." He liked children and enjoyed befriending them and making them happy.
Frank and his wife, Eliza, left Croydon and went to Hilliard Flats, Wyoming, in 1907, to spend full-time with their sheep operations. Later Eliza returned to Croydon where she lived for a short time, then over to Morgan. Much to the sorrow of their close friends, Frank and Eliza's lives drifted apart to a point where their differences could not be reconciled.
Frank continued to live in Wyoming, looking after his interest in the sheep business, engaging in other agricultural pursuits, and continuing with his musical interest.
Frank's brother became critically ill and required special medication which they did not have. Therefore, Frank rode his horse through inclement weather conditions a distance of forty miles to Cody, Wyoming, to obtain the needed medication, the result being his brother survived because of Frank's charitable act. However, from the extreme exposure to the weather, Frank contracted pneumonia and, three days later, passed away February 22, 1922, at Ott, Wyoming at the age of forty-nine years.
