Funeral services for Mrs. John F. Moody were held Thursday, Jan. 7 in the Lovell Ward chapel. Bishop Frank H. Brown conducted the services. The choir sang "We Thank Thee O God for a Prophet," for the opening number. Invocation was by H. Cash Carlton. Fritz Winzenried of Byron read the obituary. Sermons were given by Pres. O.L. Allphin and by Bishop Brown. The choir sang "How Great the Wisdon and the Love," following President Allphin's sermon. Closing hymn was "I Know That My Redeemer Lives." Ellis B. Powelson of Byron pronounced the benediction. Interment was in the Penrose cemetery. Elder Harry J. Mangus dedicated the grave.
Maud Mangus Moody was born Dec. 26, 1891, in Logan, West Va. She attended the schools there and the Methodist church there until she grew to womanhood, when she accepted the L.D.S. gospel and came west. On Jan. 4, 1911, she was married to Elder John F. Moody, and just 32 years from that date she passed away, after a lingering illness.
The Moodys were resident of Penrose for a number of years, later moving to Byron. The family is now living in Lovell. They have participated in many pioneer experiences in this vicinity and have a wide circle of friends. Nine children have come to the Moody home, two of whom died in infancy. Besides her husband, John F. Moody, the following children survive; Mrs. Virginia Sawyer, Wayman, Raymond, and Wendell, all of Lovell, Mrs. Martha Warman of Jeffersonville, Ind., Mrs. Pearl Hampton of Powell, and Ed of Nevada. She is also survived by her aged mother, Mrs. Malinda Mangus, and two sisters, Mrs. Ward C. Hile and Mrs. Stella Vance, and by seven brothers, Jake, Roy, Choncie, Clayton, Elmer, Grady and Anthony. Sympathy is extended the bereaved family.

Mrs. Elizabeth Moody, 81, died at North Big Horn hospital Thursday evening after a lengthy illness.
She was born in Patrick county, Va., Sept. 15, 1881, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Soyars. She had been a resident of Lovell since 1946. She was married to John F. Moody Aug. 19, 1946. He preceded her in death in June of 1958.
Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Virginia Sawyer of Mesa, Ariz., Mrs. Pearl Asay and Mrs. Martha Warman both of Lovell; four step-sons, Raymond and Wayman of Lovell; John of Bishop, Calif.; Wendell of Waco, Tex.; three sisters, Mrs. Maggie Allen, Mrs. Zelma Stowe both of Burlington, N.C. Mrs. Grace Lewis of Cowley; two brothers, Major of Stuart, Va., and Burke of Richmond, Va.; 22 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held in the Big Horn Stake LDS Chapel Monday with Bishop Mark Robertson offciating. Pallbearers were Frances Moody, Evan Asay, Larry Moody, Jerry Warman, Jay Hampton and Ray Moody.
Interment was in the Penrose cemetery with Haskell Funeral Home in charge.

John C. Nazer, 91, died Thursday, May 22 at the Powell Valley Care Center.
He was born July 27, 1911, in Youngstown, Ohio, to Milus and Theresa Kostelnek. His foster parents, L.H. and Lena Nazer, raised him in Cowley.
He joined the U.S. Army at age 18 and completed his assignment and was honorably discharged. When World War II broke out, he re-enlisted and served overseas, again receiving an honorable discharge.
He married Martha Vogel in Montana. He was a farmer all his life, farming southeast of Powell.
He is survived by his wife Martha of the family home; a daughter, Janet Nazer of Powell; sons Jack Nazer of Lovell and Bert Nazer of Powell; granddaughters Balea Nazer, Brittany Nazer of Serena Stapert, all of Cody.
Cremation has taken place. As he wished, private memorial services will be held at a later date. Miratsky-Easton Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Martha Nazer, age 75, died at Powell Valley Healthcare Center on Monday evening, December 1, 2003, after being admitted on November 29, 2003.
She was born Martha Marie Vogele on September 28, 1928, to Michael and Pauline (Feil) Vogele in Harlem, Mont. She was raised in the Park City, Mont. area. She was one of 13 children, most of whom preceded her in death.
She worked at various jobs in Montana before marrying John C. (Jack) Nazer of Powell. They were married on September 5, 1955, in Red Lodge, Mont. He preceded her in death in May of this year.
She is survived by her daughter, Janet Nazer of Powell, her son, Bert Nazer, also of Powell; a stepson, Jack D. Nazer of Lovell; three granddaughters, Balea and Brittany Nazer and Serena Stapert of Cody; two sisters, Emma Vogel of Billings and Lydia Anthony of Oroville, Calif, three brothers, Jack, Leonard and Herman Vogel, all of Billings; and several nieces and nephews.
Per her wishes, cremation has taken palace and private family services will be held at a later date.

Nels Osher, a Lovell pioneer passed away at his home in Penrose at the age of 87. Mr. Osher owned and operated a cattle ranch on what is now known as the sugar factory farms southwest of Lovell, during the 1890's and 1900's. He was here when the first Mormon Settlers arrived. Later he moved to Penrose where he operated a cattle ranch, and later moved his interests on to the South Fork of the Shoshone river when it became too crowded in the Penrose area. About ten years ago he returned to Penrose where he built a comfortable home and it was here that his wife died soon after their return.
The deceased is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Walter Petermann of Meeteetse and three sons, Lee of Cody, Dr. Lewis of Texas and Dr. George of Los Angeles and four grandchildren.
Funeral services were held in the Penrose community hall Monday, Oct. 15 at 2 p.m. Music was furnished by a quartet of singing mothers of the Byron ward accompanied by Mrs. Walter Stevens. Bishop Ernest Jensen of the Byron ward conducted the services.
Mrs. James Simmons of Byron sang a solo and the obituary was read by Bishop Vern Asay of the Meeteetse ward. The speakers were M.D. Harris of Lovell and James B. Wasden of Penrose, long time friends of Mr. Osher.
The songs, "Abide With Me" and Sometime We'll Understand" were sung by the quartet. The opening and closing prayers were offered by Frank L. Jones of Byron and Fred Hopkin of Powell.
Burial was in the Penrose cemetery beside his wife and the funeral arrangements were made by the Smith Funeral Home of Cody.

Mrs. Nelse Osher passed away Sunday, December 13th, at the Lovell hospital at the age of 77, following a brief illness
Mr and Mrs. Osher were ranchers on the Southfork for a number of years, moving back to the old home ranch at Penrose in 1940.
There remains a host of friends and neighbors in the Southfork country and Cody who will mourn her passing.
Services were held at Penrose Wednesday, December 16th, at two o'clock.
Mrs. Osher was an especially fine old lady, being held in high esteem by all who knew her.

Funeral services for Charles Edward Reed, recently retired Powell businessman, are scheduled at 11 a.m. Tuesday from the LDS Church, Bishop Jay Partridge officiating.
Mr. Reed died of an apparent heart attack Saturday night, March 15 in the Powell Hospital. He was 57.
Burial will be in the Penrose Cemetery, with arrangments by Easton Funeral Home.
Mr. Reed owned and operated at different times during 20 years in Powell The Dutch Mill, Southside Grocery, The Foodland Grocery, and Reed's Market. Reed's Market on East Coulter Ave. was sold Jan. 1, and Mr. Reed retired.
He was born Aug. 29, 1911, at St. Louis, Mo., the son of Charles E. and Louise L. Reed. He married Gwendolyn L. Henderson on Feb. 3, 1934, at St. Charles, Mo.
Survivors include the widow; two daughters, Mrs. Joan Louise Arnett, Cody, and Judy Ann Reed, a student at BYU; one son Charles Reed, Jr., Olympia, Wash.; and two grandchldren.
For those who wish, contributions may be made in the memory of Mr. Reed to the Wyoming Heart Fund.
A business closing from 11 a.m. to 12 noon has been recommended by the chamber of commerce.

Clark A. Rook, Sr. 60, died Friday of an apparent heart attack while working on an oil rig 15 miles north of Powell.
He was born in Red Lodge, Mont. the son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter S. Rook and attended Red Lodge Schools. He had been a member of the Eagles Lodge and worked for Dick's Well Service for 26 years.
He is survived by his widow, the former Mildred Shanor, a daughter , Sharma Lee Barron of Easton, Pa. a son, Clark A. Rook, Jr. of Powell, his mother of Billings, and two sisters, Mrs. Mae Kent of Red Lodge and Mrs. Betty Handley of Vernal, Utah.
Services were Monday in the First Southern Baptist Church in Powell with burial in the Penrose Cemetery with Easton Funeral Home in charge.

Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 3 p.m. at First Southern Baptist Church in Powell for Mildred (Peg) shanor Rook Williams, 80, who died Sunday, June 10 at West Park Hospital in Cody.
Pastor Don Peel will officiate at services. Interment will follow in Penrose Cemetery.
She was born Oct. 11, 1920, at Sheridan, the daughter of Jesse Olen and Charlotte (Verley) Shanor. She married Clark A. Rook, Sr. on Feb. 20, 1940, in Red Lodge, Mont.
Mr. Rook preceded her in death in October, 1977. She later married Norman J. Willians on Sept. 1, 1984.
She was a former Girl Schout leader and member of the Girl Sout Coucil. She was a charter member of First Southern Baptist Church in Powell.
She served as superintendent of the needlework department at the Park County Fair for 20 years and also taught quilting classes.
Survivors include her husband, Norman, in Cody; a daughter, Sharma Lee Barron of Powell; grandchildren, Edward and Kelly Barron of Bethlehem, Pa., Raymond Barron and Rodney Barron, both of Bethlehem Township, Pa., Stacey and Michael Hartz of Easton, Pa., Walter Rook of Wisconsin, and two granddaughters whom she raised, Lindy and Rob O'Rourke of Powell and Millie and Kevin Wall of Casper; great-grandchildren, Rodney Barron Jr. of Allentown, Pa., Cassandra Rook of Casper, and Justin and Tristian Hartz of Easton, Pa.; five brothers Leroy Shanor of Deaver, Phil Shanor and wife Karen of Ranchester, Martin Shanor of Kalispell, Mont., William Shanor of Columbia Falls, Mont., and Robert Shanor and wife Inger of Powell; and a sister, Betty Dalke and husband Vernon of Wenatchee, Wash. Funeral services were Saturday at the LDS Church in Powell for Hyrum A. (Bill) Shumway, 77, who died Wednesday afternoon, Oct. 6 at the Powell Nursing Home.
Bishop Greg Wille conducted services. Burial was in the Penrose Cemetery.
Mr. Shumway was born Sept. 19, 1916, at Penrose, son of Hyrum Brooks and Rosa Bell Shumway. He married Marcene Bailey on July 4, 1943, at Red Lodge, Mont.
Mr. Shumway worked for Amoco Productions Co. at Powell for 29 years, retiring in 1978.
Survivors include his wife of Powell; four daughters, Mrs. Don (Judie) Hillman of Sheridan, Mrs. Wes (Linda) Learned, Mrs. Bob (Sally) Langdon, and Mrs. Kelly (Donna) Burgener, all of Powell, one son, Richard Shumway of Powell; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchildren.

Funeral services are at 1 p.m. today (Tuesday) in the LDS Church in Powell for long-time resident Marcene Louise (Bailery) Shumway, who died Friday, April 30 after a short illness. She was 83.
Visitation will be at the church for one hour prior to services. Burial will be in the Penrose Cemetery outside of Byron.
She was born on Oct. 6, 1915, in Independence, Mo., to Don and Eva Bailey. She was raised and educated in Greybull, then attended John Brown University in Siloam Springs, Ark, and the University of Wyoming.
She taught school in Shell, Emblem and Byron.
While teaching in Byron, she met Hyrum Albert (Bill) Shumway, and they were married in Red Lodge, Mont., on July 4, 1945. Their union produced five children.
Her family will remember her as a loving mother, grandmother and homemaker. She was an expert seamstress. She enjoyed reading and being with her family.
She was an active and dedicated member f the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
Survivors include four daughters, Judie Hillman and her husband Don of Sheridan, Linda Learned and her husband Wes of Powell, Sally Langdon and her husband Bob of Powell, and Donna Burgener and her husband Kelly of Powell; one son, Richard Shumway and his wife Cindy of Powell; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Vincent Spencer Tanner, 97, were held Saturday, May 31, 1997, in the Byron LDS Chapel. Interment followed in the Penrose Cemetery.
Mr. Tanner died Tuesday, May 27, 1997, at New Horizons Care Center in Lovell. He was born November 15, 1899, in Clover, Utah, the son of Joseph Junius and Mary May Price Tanner.
He grew up in Utah and came to Wyoming as a young man. He married Florence Keppner April 12, 1924, in Salt Lake City, Utah. Mrs. Tanner died December 11, 1991.
Mr Tanner worked for Marathon Oil Co. as a production foreman for many years.
He is survived by four sons, John V. Tanner of Phoenix, Ariz., Meldon J. Tanner and Charles A. Tanner, both of Orem, Utah and Noel S. Tanner of Spanish Fork, Utah; four daughters, Romona Allen of Boise Idaho, Arden Brailsford of Pleasant Grove, Utah, Reah Dawn Sanstead of Erskine, Minn. and Betty Langston of Byron, Wyo.; one brother, Jim Julius Tanner of Salt Lake City, Utah; two sisters, Rowena of San Jose, Calif. and Leora of Mexico; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Florence Keppner Tanner, age 88, died Wednesday, Dec. 11, in the New Horizons Care Center in Lovell after a long illness.
She was born May 9, 1903 in Rexburg, Idaho, the daughter of Charles and Mary McColloch Keppner. she grew up in Rexburg. On April 12, 1924 she married Vincent Tanner in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They made their home in Anaconda, Mont. for several years then moved to Provo, Utah. They later moved back to Anaconda and in 1932 they moved ot the Big Horn Basin. They spent most of their married lives in Byron.
Mrs. Tanner loved to can food, cook and especially work n the church. She especially enjoyed her family.
She is survived by her husband, Vincent of Byron; four sons, John V. Tanner of Phoenix, Ariz., Mel J. Tanner of Orem, Utah, Charles A. Tanner of Orem and Noel S. Tanner of Spanish Fork, Utah; five daughters, E. Dween Carroll of Salt Lake City, Utah, Romona A. Florence Allen of Wendell, Idaho, Arden Lorraine Brailsford of Pleasant Grove, Utah, Reah Dawn Sanstead of Erskine, Minn. and Betty Langston of Byron.
She has one living brother, Jim Julius of Boise, Idaho; 47 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Dec. 14 in the Byron LDS Chapel at 2 p.m. Burial was in the Penrose Cemetery. Haskell Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

Word has been received that Alex Tvedtnes passed away in Denver on Sunday afternoon. He was 74 years old and was a former resident of the Penrose community for over 40 years before moving to Denver. His body is being shipped to Powell where the funeral arrangements will be in charge of Easton Funeral Home.

Funeral services for Alex Tvedtnes will be held Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at the L.D.S. church in Powell.
Mr. Tvedtnes passed away in Denver last Sunday and his body was brought to Powell for services. Interment will be in the Penrose cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Chris Hitz, Ted Lord, Jimmie Jones, Ralph Jones, Dolphin Anderson and DeLyle Lindsay.

Mrs. Alice Emma Carroll Tvedtnes, 64, 1103 N. 14th West, died in a Salt Lake hospital Sunday, 3 a.m., of natural causes. Born July 3, 1894, Vernal, to Robert and Alice Emma Carroll. Married to Alex Tvedtnes Dec. 25, 1912, Penrose, Wyo. He died April 14, 1956. Member, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Survivors: two sons, two daughters, Alex C., Salt Lake City; Glen L., Mrs. Dorothy Fulton, both Denver; Mrs. Larcena Aseltyne, Los Angeles; six grandchildren; a brother, three sisters. Funeral, burial will be in Powell, Wyo.
