Tyler Kevin Hatch

GRAVE LOCATION: Block D Lot 6 Grave 2

Tyler Kevin Hatch
Born: 11 Nov 2002, Durango, La Plata, Colorado
Parents Terri L Hartwell & Kevin M Hatch
Died 2 July 2012, Park county, Wyoming (drowned)
Buried 8 Aug 2012, Wednesday

Tyler Kevin Hatch, born to his proud parents, Kevin Meltiar Hatch and Terri Lyn Hartwell Hatch, entered this mortal existence November 11, 2002 in the beautiful city of Durango Colorado, where his parents were both students at Ft. Lewis College. One very excited sister, Haley Lyn Hatch, 18 months old, greeted him with so much love and enthusiasm. Later other loving sisters joined this happy family: Ashlin Elizabeth, Ali Alise, and Maiah Kate.
Tyler was a happy baby, content to sit and watch the activities of his busy family, until he was big enough to participate. He was always a thinker, a deep thinker, and seemed to learn rather easily. I hope Haley won’t mind me sharing this. She had just started Kindergarten and was kind of struggling with counting and reading her numbers sequentially. She and I were at the kitchen table trying different methods to help her learn these numbers and in order. I had written a grid out showing how numbers went in a pattern, and we tried counting again. She would start counting and would get stuck on whatever number, and Tyler who was 3 and sitting next to his dad on the couch in the living room, would say the next number. That happened with whatever number - 19, 35, 87. Tyler knew his numbers and that was just the beginning of his academic skills. Tyler learned to love to read, and last year, among many other books, he read every one of the books in the Warriors series by Erin Hunter. He told me I just needed to read those books because they were great! I esteemed his recommendation. Tyler loved to learn about new things and see new things. That characteristic has been evident throughout his mortal life. When he saw something new that he was excited about he would say, “Dad, you should come see this, it is soooo cool!”
Animals and the outdoors were fascinating for Tyler. I had the opportunity a few times to walk Tyler and Haley, with Ashlin and Ali accompanying us, to and from school when they lived in Chicago, we had to stop and look at every single spiderweb and nearby insects along that 4 block trek. It didn’t matter that we had checked them out in the morning, we had to see if anything had changed by afternoon. He and Ashlin were always looking for interesting species to capture. This continued when they moved back to Eagle Mountain and went on hikes on their spacious acreage. Keep in mind, 5 acres is huge if you moved there from a gated community in Chicago. Just days before Tyler left this world, he had helped his cousin Landon capture a big toad and a lizard in our yard. He also continued the work his sisters started of taming our 20 baby kittens. Among other things he enjoyed dogs, cats, and riding horses. He also enjoyed boating and learned to wakeboard with his uncles.
Tyler possessed several characteristics which surfaced again and again in the experiences and memories people shared. Tyler willingly did whatever chores or task someone asked him to do. Often Tyler was offered some monetary compensation for his work, but many times he refused to accept money for those things he did. It didn’t matter if it was shoveling manure, mowing the lawn, doing odd jobs, or helping care for younger cousins. He accepted the assignment and fulfilled it without complaining, and with mowing Paka’s lawn, he even did it enthusiastically! When Tyler did accept money for his work, he was frugal with it. He was saving for his mission, and for college. His genuine, selfless concern for others surfaced again and again. One time Uncle Joel was bemoaning his lack of finances to Kevin and Terri. A few minutes later, Tyler came out with his piggy bank, and offered his savings to help his uncle. Another time, cousin Landon turned 4, and Kevin and Terri’s family went to Joseph and Annie’s to help celebrate his birthday. Each of their children had made nice cards for Landon. Tyler had made his with a pocket on it, so that he could include two of his favorite armored knights as a gift for his cousin. For others, that may have been quite a sacrifice to give away some of their favorite playthings, but Tyler came up with the idea on his own, because he knew it would make another little boy very happy.
Another characteristic Tyler exhibited was his bravery. Last summer, at the age of 8, he did front flips off the front of Paka’s boat. Several years ago, his family went to Disney World. Brett shares, “We sent on the Jurassic Park ride. We knew Tyler liked dinosaurs so we thought Tyler should go on it. Terri said there was no way she was going to let Tyler ride this ride because it was too scary for kids. We tried to talk her into it, but she was firm. When we got off we looked for Tyler but didn’t see him. We turned around and sure enough he was on the Jurassic Park ride with Kevin. Turns out he rode it three more times.”
We are thrilled Tyler ended up loving to play baseball this season, after sitting out last year with a broken arm, and his first team experience with tee ball in our community two years ago was not that great. I don’t think it was the sport Tyler struggled with. It had more to do with the very bossy girl who played 1st base and thought she knew more about every position, etc. than the entire rest of the team put together. That anxiety led Ashlin and Tyler to hide in the hills behind our house to keep him from going to practice. So thank you coaches, teammates, and fans of the Mariners, for helping him love to play baseball. I understand that this season he got a hit and could have run to 3rd base, but chose to slide in at 2nd instead. I think he stole to get to 3rd. Then his teammate hit a ball clear into the outfield. Tyler could have walked in, but he took off for home plate. When he got there he slid into home even though the ball was still in the outfield. Then, as if celebrating, he just laid back savoring his small victory. He stayed there so long, living up the moment that his family had to yell to him to get up as a runner was running in. He was so happy that he got to slide home.
Tyler was developing other new talents. He was learning to play the piano. He enjoyed that, and was picking it up quickly. At our recent family reunion Tyler surprised us by hanging from the basketball hoop in the game room. He had some nice hops to be able to get up there!
Tyler loved to eat. His mom is a great cook, so he has learned to appreciate good food, and to express that appreciation. He was eating crepes at Angela’s and Troy’s. They had made a delicious fruit sauce to go on them that Tyler just loved. Even though he ate about 10 crepes, after almost every bite, he said, “This is sooooooo good!” Then he added, “My mom should get this recipe.” One of the things Tyler looked forward to at our family reunion was the fact, that if a person wanted to, there is always enough yummy food that a person could basically eat nonstop if they desired. He desired, and was excited for the challenge.
Patience is another of Tyler’s virtues. He was patient with his sisters, and even with their teasing. Several of us have been recently blessed with the privilege of watching how genuinely patient and good Tyler was with all of his cousins, keeping them entertained by talking to them and making them laugh, swinging them, building lego creations, and being very best buds with Hyrum and Dawson. In fact, as they were traveling to the South Fork trail head, early the morning of July 2nd, Shanell looked into her rearview mirror at those three boys together in her back seat and marveled at how well they got along, never any quarreling, just the very best of friends.
Tyler loved the hunting trip he went on with his dad, papa, uncle and cousins last fall. But he gave up one afternoon of going out on the horses to stay in camp to keep his Papa Don company. That’s when Papa Don taught him how to tie a Terk’s Knot to use as a slide for his scout scarf.
Tyler esteemed hanging out with the guys, with his dad, grandpas, uncles and cousins. He loved shooting his BB gun, watching sports, fishing, hunting, playing basketball, etc. No matter the activity, it was just obvious that Tyler loved his quality “Dad Time”. Even though he loved doing the guy things, it was obvious he loved his mom, and his sisters. He disposition has always been gentle, kind, and sensitive, even as he tried to act like a tough guy.
I cherish the vision of things through the eyes of children. Yesterday Ali told me that Tyler was in heaven, and probably riding her horse, Starlight that died the 4th of July. Maiah told me Tyler must be playing basketball with Heavenly Father and Jesus. What a team to play on! And they both assured me that Tyler didn’t have to ask Mom’s permission to visit his friends or to do anything he wanted to do. He could just do it.
Tyler left this mortal life on July 2, 2012, being in the outdoors he loved with people he loved. In 9 short years, Tyler has made a huge impact in so many lives. I hope that one of the lessons we learn from his example is his love of life and his God-given attribute of expressing appreciation for the good things we learn and enjoy in life. He displayed that “attitude of gratitude” frequently and repeatedly. Before going on this family pack trip, it was I who was praying that I would be a good example for my grandchildren, focusing on the good things that would be part of this vacation, rather than on the inconveniences of lack of modern day plumbing, sleeping on the ground, etc. All I really needed to do was to follow Tyler’s example of being appreciative, appreciative of being with people I love, appreciative of the beautiful outdoors, and the creatures in it, appreciative for seeing and learning new things. Hopefully we can all envision him with new and improved knowledge of ways to see and do things we can only imagine, as he says, “Mom, Dad, you should come see this. This is soooooo cool.”

Edwin Jennings NeVille

GRAVE LOCATION: Block A Lot 5 Grave 6

Edwin Jennings NeVille
born: 22 Oct 1915, Byron, Big Horn, Wyoming
son of Carrie Hatch and Leo Jennings NeVille
Married Geraldine "Jeri" Pryde
Died 29 April 2015, Lovell, Big Horn, Wyoming
Buried 4 May 2015 Monday

Edwin Jennings NeVille of Byron, Wyoming passed away on April 29, 2015, in the New Horizons Care Center, Lovell Wyoming. Ed was 99 years, 6 months. He lived well and enjoyed life.
Ed and his wife, Geraldine “Jeri” Pryde NeVille, 97, were married over 81 years ago. Jeri still lives in the home she and Ed built and remodeled several times as they raised their family in Byron. They were the longest married couple in the United States in 2015. He is survived by his wife and their three children, Edwin Denney NeVille (Linda) of Byron, Wyoming, Wallace Jennings NeVille (Shirley) of Vallejo, California and Cody Marie Mazuran (Michael) of Holiday, Utah. Ed and Jeri have 18 grandchildren and 48 great grandchildren.
Both Ed and Jeri were born and raised in Byron. Ed was the fourth child born to Leo Jennings NeVille and Carrie Hatch NeVille. Ed had five siblings, brother Leo Jennings NeVille, sisters Sigrid Crandall, Jessie Lewis, Esther Tippets and Eloise Jones. He was the last surviving member of his family.
Ed spent his life working in the oil fields of Wyoming, Colorado, Montana and Utah. He was expert in the field and made many friends as a roughneck, driller and tool pusher for R. L. Manning Drilling Company. He was invited several times to move his family to Casper and work out of the main offices, but declined so he could keep his family in Byron.
Because of his genuine concern for their well-being, his hired hands were loyal and wanted to work on his crews. Ed’s leadership was coupled with friendship and an interesting collection of hobbies, including knapping authentic-looking arrowheads and studying the stars from remote drilling locations and his backyard. Companies tried twice to hire Ed, giving him high paying assignments overseas which he declined again so he could keep his family in Byron. He served for a while as Mayor of Byron and felt it an honor because his father and grandfather were original settlers of the community. Ed had deep feelings for his hometown.
Ed was a member of the LDS Church and served in many callings. He was appreciated in the community and by all who worked with him during his years of employment in the oil fields. Ed was interesting to talk with as he shared his deep interests on many different subjects. Several youth in the community helped and enjoyed his interest in building and launching rockets. He seemed to enjoy and anticipate that things would wear out, break down and need fixing. His positive attitude and sense of humor were woven through all his stories and teaching opportunities. He will be greatly missed.
Our family would like to extend a very special thanks to all of the healthcare employees of the New Horizons Care Center and the North Big Horn Hospital in Lovell for the special care and friendship extended to Dad for the last three and a half years. He called the center his home and thought of you as family and friends. We are deeply grateful for the care and comfort you have given him. Thank you.
Services for Ed were held in the Byron LDS Chapel on May 4, 2015 with Bishop Bret George officiating. Interment was at the Byron Cemetery.
