He went with his Mother to live in Byron, Wyoming for a few years. He was back and forth between Gary and Byron until he started to school and then he stayed in Hobart, Indiana. He would go to Wyoming in the summer to visit his Grandparents Fannie and Louis Wolz. He spent one summer in Yellowstone Park with his Mother. He was a top notch mechanic by the time he was in high school he worked in a garage. He started driving trucks right after he and Laura Ethel McCown were married married March 4th, 1957. To ths union three childen were born, Charles Wayne Byrum, Sherrie Lynn Byrum and Richard Lee Byrum. He left Indiana in the early sixtys and moved to San Jose, California where his Mother was living; and stayed in that vicinity for some time. He worked at G& P Rentals for a while and then bought a truck and started hauling Fruit to the cannerys. This developed into a Trucking Business that he ran out of Milpita,s California. He had five or six trucks on the road long distance hauling as well as between the bay area and Los Angles area. He later cut his trucks to two as truck drivers were not dependable. This was known as Byrum trucking. The union between He and Laura was desolved and he married Deborah Lynn Condon, Janurary 8, 1980 at Carson City, Nevada. At this time he also ran a feed store in Fiddle Town, Ca. hauling his hay and feed to his store as well as on the road for other people. This union was also desolved. In August 1987 he met Darilyn Kahili Kunewa who we affectionantly call Dee. They decided to join their lives together in October that same year.
In 1991 Russell stopped turcking and went in business with Wayne McKinny. It was called High Serria Tranportation and Services. They recycled used oil filters and refurbished containers, Russell took over the business by himself in 1994. He found another partner Joseph Hapiyuk. They incorporated the new business called Green Leaf Recyling Services. Russell invented a hydraulic machine to strip the oil and crush the cans so oil and oil drums could be recyled. This he did until his death on April 21, 2001. His wife Dee works there in the oil and grease to carry on his part of the business.
Russsell had many friends, several have said he took them in when they needed help. He never refused to help anyone. He was generous to a fault sometimes doing without himself to help others. Many times people took him. He told his Mother he could look himself in the mirror because he knew he had done right no matter how they treated him. He was kind and pleasant to everyone. He will be missed on this earth, but we know there are many on the other side that are waiting to greet him.

Former Byron mayor dies
Former Byron Mayor Annabelle Cozzens died Tuesday, May 25, 2004, at West Park Long Term Care Center in Cody. Cozzens served as the Byron mayor from 1991 through 1998 and was a council member prior to her service as mayor. Cozzens also served as a member of the North Big Horn Hospital Board, serving from 1995 to earlier this year, when she had to resign due to health reasons. She served on several boards for the elderly, including the White House Conference on Aging in 1995. Cozzens was a certified gerontologist, having a degree in health from the University of Wyoming and two graduate degrees from the University of Utah, one in administration and one in gerontology. Former town employee Ken Goller said Cozzens accomplished quite a few things for the town. He said one of things that most effected him was getting medical/health insurance for town employees. She also worked to have a professional police department, she got the election changed from May to the standard Primary and General elections and was instrumental in changing the street names. She upgrades the parks and provided playground equipment and new restrooms for Jones Memorial Park. "She was dedicated to keeping services affordable for young people just getting started and elderly on fixed income," Goller, a 21-year employee with the town, said. She stated in the past that she served Byron because of a desire to "keep working to make this a great place to live." Byron Town Clerk Patti Tuttle said, "Annabelle was wonderful to work for. It was a privilege to work for her." She added, "The community missed her. She was a good mayor. She really cared about this community." Hollie Jones of Byron Recreation said serving her community was what Cozzens was all about. "She spent most of her life in service, whether at the state level or in town." North Big Horn Hospital Board Chairman Dexter Woodis Jr. said, "She was a great person to serve with. She was always well-informed. The patients’ and residents’ needs were always foremost in her mind when making decision." He added, "The community has suffered a great loss." North Big Horn Hospital Board member Norm Opp said, "She was a pretty involved community member. That was her thing, being involved." He added that Annabelle was a good board member, attending regularly. "She had background in the medical field and that help was invaluable." Hospital administrative assistant and Byron resident Linda NeVille said, "I probably knew her more as a community member. She was a strong supporter of the youth. She helped furnish the little footballs that they threw out at football games. She always let the kids know how proud she was of them." NeVille added, "She was always patient with her health problems. She had a positive attitude." Funeral services for Cozzens will be Saturday, May 29, at 10 a.m. at the Byron LDS Chapel. Interment will follow in the Byron Cemetery. There will be a visitation from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday at Haskell Funeral Home in Lovell.

Dave was a lifelong member of the LDS church. He and Frankie’s marriage was solemnized in the Billings, Montana Temple in January of 2000.
Dave was born in Byron on August 1, 1921, to Matt and Marybelle (Robison) Cozzens. He was the next to the youngest child in a family of 10 children. His parents and grandparents on both the Cozzens and Robison sides, were pioneers sent to the Big Horn Basin to settle the area in 1900.
He attended schools in Byron, and was induc ted into the Army in 1942. After 18 months he left the Army as a tech sergeant with an honorable medical discharge. He returned to the Big Horn Basin, where he never gave into the pain and discomfort of his feet and leg problems. He drove truck and worked for Nicholls & Lewis and Lovell Clay Products for many years, and after retirement he was a watchman for Great Western.
However, he was better known as a horseman, as he owned horses since he was a child. Throughout his life he was known for his horse handling, and many of his closest friends shared his love of horses. Dave was also known for his stories and sense of humor. He was a keen observer of people and had a impeccable memory of folks and events.
Dave and Frankie lived most of their life together in Cowley. They raised three children, David, Leslie and Andrea. David’s daughter, Lindsay, and Leslie’s daughter, Jensen, brightened his life with their companionship and accomplishments.
Dave is survived by his wife, Frankleen (Frankie); son, David and wife Donna of Laramie and granddaughter Lindsay of New York; daughter, Leslie and husband Steve Davies of Rock Springs and granddaughter Jensen of New York; and daughter, Andrea of Cody. He is also survived by sister, Avon Brown of Bakersfield, Calif.; sisters-in-law, Bernice (Solon) Cozzens of Powell and Dorothy (Fay) Cozzens of Byron; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by three infant children; his parents; brothers, Solon, Fay, Lou, and Myron; and sisters, Zula, Lydia, Genevieve and Marybelle.
