Elizabeth Rose Neville Smith
Birth: Nov. 2, 1828, Rotherwick, Hampshire, England
Death: Jun. 10, 1899
Buried: Woodruff Cemetery, Woodruff, Rich, Utah
Elizabeth Neville was born November 2, 1828, the daughter of William Neville Stiff and Rachel Jennings Neville Stiff, in Rotherwick, Hampshire, England. She married James Smith and they eventually moved to London near Elizabeth's widowed sister Rachel Stiff Akers. They were converts to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saitins. As far as is known they had no children born to them, but they adopted a nephew, William Fisher. On November 1, 1884, James, Elizabeth and William sailed for American on the steamship "Arizona". Rachel Akers and her daughter, young Ellen Eliza, sailed on the same ship, with James acting as protector for the group. Young William was aged seventeen at the time. The Smith's settled in Woodruff because of their long association with niece Ellen Eliza (Nellie) Cox they remained very close to her and to her children. James had a small concertina with which he accompanied himself as he sang and whistled. He often gave one-man programs for the Woodruff children with his music, puppets and "Gallanti" shows. The shows were a sort of shadow-box he made, using figures cut out of heavy paper. He moved the figures about and furnished the narration, dialogue and music. Sometimes he whistled and used figures of birds. He and Elizabeth made tickets for each show and presented these to the children of the town. Elizabeth died June 10, 1899 and is buried in the Woodruff Cemetery. James is buried in the Byron, Wyoming cemetery. **Taken from "The First 100 Years in Woodruff" book.

Grief was felt here in the small communities and will be felt in far places as word was received of the death of Walter A. Stevesn, 23, son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter A. Stevens and husband of Helen Horsley. In his brief life span he had made a host of friends who will note his passing with regret. He will be remembered by his teachers, who have come and gone during his twelve years of schooling in Byron, as a likeable and conscientious student; by the athletic coach who knew that his achievements in the field of basketball was marked by clean living and good sportsmanship; by his church associates who know his religion was a real and vital part of his life and actions. He lived every day the commandment, "Honor thy father and mother," and he merited their highest love and respect, and that of his brothers and sister and other relatives.
After his graduations he enrolled at the University of Wyoming for one year; then answered the call of his country by serving in the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific from May 13, 1945 until July 4, 1946.
On July 17, 1946, in a beautiful double wedding performed at the Croft home he took Helen Horsley for his wife and a romance of several years was culminated. On September 3rd of the same year this marraige was solemnized in the Idaho Falls temple.
In the fall Walt and Helen attended the University of Wyoming, where they continued to gather a lot of happiness and a wide acquaintance and many fine friends. They were leaders in their activities in the LDS institute.
At the time of his death he was employed by the Kerr-McGee drilling company where he received an accidental injury that caused his death 36 hours later on July 10.
He is survived by his widow, his parents, Bishop and Mrs. W. A. Stevens, three brothers, Jack of St. Louis and Gary and Geo. of Byron and a sister, Marjeanne
