Charles David Foster, 45, a long time Lovell resident, died February 15, 1989 of an unknown illness at the Deaconess Hospital in Billings, Mont.
His hobbies were his horses, fishing and hunting.
He was born in Centerville, Iowa. His family moved to Wyoming when he was a young boy.
In November 1964, he married Jane Pearson. They had four children. Survivors include his wife Janie, daughters Pam and Monica, sons Eddie and Robert, and one granddaughter, Traci Ann Foster.
He also leaves behind his mother, Annebelle Foster of Basin, four brothers Larry Foster, of Worland, Danny Foster of Byron, George Foster of Basin, and Thomas Foster of Fort Benning, Georgia and one sister Pauline Faith of Manderson.
Services were held Feb. 18 at 2 p.m. in Byron at the LDS Chapel. Burial was in the Byron Cemetry with Easton Funeral Home in charge.

Billy Lee Freeman, 43, died Friday at his home in Byron of natural causes.
He was born August 13, 1939, in Buffalo, the son of Wilbur and Sylvia Freeman. He joined the Marine Corps when a young man and served 20 years. He married Beverly Whitman Dec. 16, 1973, in Oceanside, Cal.
After his discharge from the service, he moved to Byron, where he had lived for the past 2 1/2 years. He was employed as an electrician at the time of his death.
He was a member of the I.O.O.F. Lodge of Lovell and the Byron Lion's Club.
Survivors include his wife of Byron; one son, Billy Jr.; two daughters, Michelle and Jennifer, all of the family home; four stepsons, David E. Whitman of Twentynine Palms, Cal., Robert Whitman of Andrews A.F.B., Cal., Mark Whitman of Lackland A.F.B., Texas, and Michael Whitman of Byron; two step daughters, Susan May of Santa Anna, Cal., and Belinda Whitman of Byron; his parents, of Byron; two brothers, Bobby of Cody and Dale of Basin; and four grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Monday at 2 p.m. in the Byron LDS Chapel with Bishop Charles Hessenthaler officiating. Burial was in the Byron Cemetery with military honors. Haskell Funeral Home of Lovell was in charge of arrangements.

Funeral services were conducted Monday morning at Easton Funeral Home in Powell for Mark A. Gariety, 21, formerly of Byron, who was found dead Friday, Jan . 2 of accidental carbon monoxide poisoning.
Committal at the Byron Cemetry followed services.
Mr. Gariety, employed as a cook at the Skyline Cafe in Powell, was graduated from Byron High School in 1984. He was born in Denver, Colo. Oct 14, 1965, and attended schools in Denver, Fromberg, Mont., Lovell and Byron.
Survivors include his mother and stepfather, Beth and Carl Bechtold of Byron; a sister, Tonja Gariety of the family home; and a brother, Greg McClure of Lovell.

Nancy Eva Glaze, 48, died Wednesday evening, Nov. 14, 1984, in the North Big Horn Hospital in Lovell of cancer. She was born Dec. 23, 1935, in Carbondale, Ill., the daughter of Rollie and Elma Davie. She married Elvis Glaze but later was divorced. She came to Byron eight years ago from Houston, Texas. She enjoyed macrame, crocheting, quilting, needlepoint and worked with ceramics and oil paints.
Survivors include her step-father, John Renner of Byron; three sons, Richard Martinez of Byron, Rollie Martinez of Pearland, Texas, and Elvis Glaze Jr. of Logansport, La.; five daughrters, Diana Beall of Lovell, Rose Wallace of Wills Point, Texas, Nancy Jane Tanner of Byron, Jeanne Glaze of Logansport, La.; two sisters, Bunny Paxton of Byron, and Scharlene Lopez of San Benito, Tx.; and nine grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Nov. 17, 1984, in the Byron LDS Church with Bishop Charles Hessenthaler officiating. Burial was in the Byron Cemetery. Tracy Lee Gilmore, 17, was dead on arrival at North Big Horn Hospital in Lovell on July 26, 1985 following a traffic accident Friday night. She was a passenger on a motorcycle that struck a pickup truck two miles west of Lovell on U.S. 310. Death was due to massive head injuries.
She was born in Lovell on Dec. 11, 1967, and was the daughter of Patricia Ann Yates Gilmore and step-daughter of Robert L. Gilmore of Lovell. Her father is Bruce Goswick of Cody. She had lived in Lovell for the past six months, coming from Olympia, Wash. with her family. She had attended Powell High School and would have been a senior at Lovell High School this fall.
She is surived by her parents of Lovell, her father of Cody, and three sisters, Tyna Ann Gilmore of Olympia and Tonja Lynn Gilmore and Trudi Renee Gilmore, both of Lovell.
Her maternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Leon Yates of Byron, and her paternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Audrey Gilmore of Powell. She is also survived by three great-grandmothers, Mrs. Lillian Hinkel of Lovell, Mrs. Eloise Yates of Rising Star, Texas, and a great-grandmother in Louisiana.
Funeral services were to be held Tuesday, July 30, 1985 at 2 p.m. in the Byron LDS Chapel, with Bishop Charles Hessenthaler officiating. Burial was in the Byron Cemetery. Haskell Funeral Home of Lovell was in charge of arrangements.

COWLEY, Wyo. -- Clyde Frank Griffin spend most o his life in Big Horn County and worked in construction and auto body repair.
Mr. Griffin, 40, died Sunday morning in his home of a gunshot wound.
He was born in Los Angeles, Calif., and was adopted by Frank Stephen and Vinetta Robertson Griffin.
He graduated fom Byron High School, attended auto technical school in Denver, Colo., and graduated from Western Montana College in Dillon, Mont. He married Carol Tervo in Lovell, Wyo.
Survivors include his parents of Byron; and his wife of Cowley.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in the Cowley LDS Chapel with burial in the Byorn Cemetery. Haskell Funeral Home is in charge.

Funeral services for Sally Perry Griffin, 84, Byron, were held Thursday, Jan. 2 at 2 p.m. in the Byron LDS chapel with Bishop David Jones officiating.
Mrs. Griffin died at her home Sunday, Jan 1.
Music for the services was furnished by the grandchildren of the deceased, singing "I'll Go Where You Want Me To Go," and "The End of a Perfect Day." Thales Smith Sr. was the speaker and Violet Mangus read the obituary.
Mrs. Griffin was born Feb. 20 1876 at Millville, Utah, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Perry. She married Wiliam S. Griffin Oct. 4, 1893, at Vernal, Utah, moving to Wyoming the same year. Mr. Griffin preceded her in death, Jan. 12, 1955.
Surviving are three sons, Frank and Harry of Byron and Wilwood of Lovell; one daughter, Rose G. Doty of Byron; nine grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Kendall Yorgasen, John Christofferson, Kenneth Doty, Oris Doty, Paul Davids and Clyde Griffin.

Funeral rites for William Stephen Griffin were held Monday, Jan. 17 at 2 p.m. at the Byron chapel with Bishop Ernest Jensen presiding. Grace Stevens furnished the organ music, and other numbers included singing by grandchildren of the deceased. The invocation was by Charles Anderson. Speaker was Thales Smith of Shell and the obituary was read by Nellie Vail. The songs, "One Sweetly Solemn Thought" were by Kenneth Doty, Oris Doty, Allen Doty, Nola Christophersen and LeRose Peterson, accompanied by Corinne Doty; "Beyond the Sunset," by Nola Christopherson, Norma Griffin, LeRose Peterson and Oris Doty, accompanied by Corrine Doty; "The Lord's Prayer," by Kenneth Doty, accompanied by Corrine Doty; and "The End of a Perfect Day," by Nola Christopherson and Norma Griffin accompanied by Corinne Doty.
The benediction was by Frank Jones and pallbearers were Frank Jones, Fritz Winzenried, Maurice Jensen, Walt Stevens, David Jones and Ellis Powelson.
Obituary
William S. Griffin, a pioneer of the Big Horn basin, was born in Melrose, Wisc., Feb. 23, 1864, the son of Hiram and Clarinda Worden Griffen. He was the third child in a family of five. When a young man he went to Vernal, Utah, where he met Sally Perry and was married Oct. 4, 1893. They came to Wyoming that year, arriving here in November and filed on a homestead on Emblem bench, where they experienced all the hardships of early pioneer life.
They moved to Byron in 1901 to be nearer a school, living in town for a few years, then purchased a ranch on the south side of the river. They moved there and remained as a stockman and farmer until his retiremnt in 1938, leaving the management of the farm to his sons. Mr. Griffin lived an active and useful life, until ill health forced him to give up most of his ambitions. He passed away Jan. 12, 1955, after an illness of two years.
He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife, three sons, Frank and Harry of Byron, Wilwood of Lovell, and one daughter, Mrs. Rose Doty of Byron. One sister, Effie Tousley of Flaxville, Mont., 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren also survive him. All the children were present and seven of the grandchildren and many friends and relatives attended the services.
The beautiful floral offerings attested to the high regard in which he was held in his community.

Donald Harvey Griggs, 47, was found dead near Tooele, Utah Saturday, Sept. 23.
He was born June 26, 1931, in Worland, the son of John and Vera Griggs. He moved with his parents to Byron when he was in fifth grade and graduated from Byron High School. He attended journalism school in Denver for two years and then entered the U.S. Navy where he served for six years.
He was an electronics technician and owned an electrical repair shop in Rossevelt, Utah at the time of his death.
He was a member of the LDS Church.
He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Vera Griggs of Byron; two sisters Mrs. Thelma Spragg of Powell and Mrs. Florence Nalley of Billings, Mont.; and one brother, Sam of Phoenix, Ariz.
Funeral services will be Thursday at 10 a.m. in the Byron LDS Chapel. Burial will be in the Byron Cemetery.

David Charles Gross, 45, died Thursday, Dec. 10, 1992 at University Hospital in Seattle, Wash. of complications related to cancer.
He was born June 30, 1947 in Baker, Mont., the son of George Newell and Gertrude Virginia Fowler Gross. He grew up in rural Montana on farm and ranch property homesteaded by his grandparents. He moved with his family to Lovell in 1965 and graduated from Lovell High School in 1966. He ultimatelly obtained an AA degree in Agriculture.
He served in the U.S. Marine Corps for four years, serving in Alaska and Vietnam. He also served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Southern Central States Mission. In addition to farming, he worked for Koch Production Co. for nine years.
He is survived by his father, George Gross of Lovell; one brother, Paul Gross of Victor, Mont.; two sisters, Jeanne Johnston and Helen Gross of Bothell, Wash.; and a host of wonderful friends.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Dec. 19, 1992 at 10 a.m. in Haskell Funeral Home in Lovell with burial with military honors in the Byron Cemetery. Haskell Funeral Home of Lovell is in charge of arrangements.

Clinton Whaley Hatch, 21, son, brother and friend, died Friday, Dec. 1, 1995. He spent the last days of his life doing what he enjoyed most -- being with his family and spending time in the Temples of the Lord.
Clinton was born on August 13, 1974, in Alliance, Neb. He attended elementary school in Lovell and Byron and studied at Rocky Mountain middle and high schools.
He was very involved in a host of school acitvities including FBLA, FFA, school plays, football, basketball and was a member of the National Honor Society. He served as te student body president at RMHS his senior year. Clinton was also an Eagle Scout.
He graduated from seminary and high school in 1992 and was Rocky Mountain's valedictorian. He attended the University of Wyoming on scholarship for one year.
He was called to serve as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in England, London South Mission. He had only been home for one month. In a talk given just a few days before his death he reaffirmed his testimony of the life of Jesus Christ and the truthfulness of His gospel.
Clinton's life was an example to each one of us. His love for others, his character, his desire to work hard for a good cause and his belief in the Lord's Plan of Salvation will always serve as a lasting legacy of this fine young man.
Those who will remember him most are parents Don and Janene; brothers Alan, Jacob, Kevin, Joseph and Joshua, sisters Amy and Angela; grandparetns WIlder and Ella Mae Hatch and Phil and Ilene Whaley; and his exteneded family and numerous friends.
Funeral services are tentatively scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 9, 1995, at 10 a.m. at the Lovell LDS Stake Center. Haskell's Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

***************Hatch family recovering from accident, death of son
Tragedy struck the Don Hatch family last Friday as six members of the Don Hatch family were injured and one son killed in a one-vehicle rollover 14 miles south of Worland on U.S. highway 20 Friday morning.
The Hatch family of Byron, Wyo., was returing from Don Alan Hatch's wedding in Salt Lake City when the accident occurred at 5:25 a.m. Friday, Dec. 1.
According to the Wyoming Highway Patrolman Dave Evans, Clinton Hatch, 21, was pronounced dead of multiple head and chest injuries at the scene. Clinton was driving the 1994 four-door Chevrolet pickup with a topper. He was headed northbound and Patrolman Evans said it appeared that Hatch fell asleep. The pickup left the right edge of roadway and traveled on the edge for "a little ways" then struck a delinear reflector post and he tried to bring the pickup back sharply onto the road. The right front tire caught on the pavement, Evans said, and the pickup rolled one and a half times, coming to rest on its top.
Joseph Hatch, 16, Joshua Hatch, 13, and Kevin Hatch, 18, were asleep in the bed of the pickup, and Amy Hatch, 11, Don Hatch, 43, and Janene Hatch, 43, were riding in the cab of the pickup with Clinton.
Evans said only Clinton was wearing a seatbelt. The passengers were all ejected when the pickup rolled the three boys in the back were ejected as the topper was torn off.
The patrolman said Clinton sustained his fatal injuries when he was partially ejected out of the pickup and the vehicle rolled over on top of him.
Along with the Wyoming Highway Patrol, the Worland Police, Washakie County Sheriff's Department, Worland Volunteer Fire Department and Washakie County Ambulance EMT's responded to the accident.
Evans said the northbound land of traffic was closed for approximately 40 minutes.
Injuries
Mother and father, Janene and Don Hatch, sustained the worst injuries of those that survived the accident.
Janene Jatch was lifeflighted to St. Vincent Hospital in Billings on Friday afternoon but was released Monday Afternoon. According to her daughter-in-law, Korin Hatch, Janene is able to get around with a walker but is to get a lot of bed rest and limit her movement.
Janene did not suffer a broken back as early reports had stated. Korin said all the ligaments and tendons have been torn away from a portion of the spinal column and she did sustain a fractured back. Korin noted she is also very bruised.
Korin said Janene is scheduled for a checkup back at St. Vincent after Christmas.
Don Hatch, as of Tuesday evening, remained at Washakie County Memorial Hospital with eight broken ribs on the right side, both front and back. On Monday, one of Don's lungs started to collapse and a tube was placed to drain the liquid. Korin said the lung did not fully collapse.
She said his prognosis is day to day on when he could be released.
Amy was released from the Worland hospital on Monday and is also getting around with a walker. She suffered a broken left ankle, left wrist and left elbow, as well as other scrapes and bruises. She is doing "pretty good," Korin said.
Kevin was admitted over night at Washakie County Memorial Hospital and released on Saturday. He received cuts and bruises, and Korin said his neck and shoulders are extremely sore. She said he was expected to begin physical therapy this week.
Joseph and Joshua were treated and relaesed Friday. Joseph stayed at the hospital. Joshua returned home and went on to play in the eighth grade conference basketball tournament in Burlington Friday and Saturday for Rocky Mountain Middle School.
Two other Hatch children were not involved in the accident, Jacob Hatch, 19, is serving a mission in California. Angela Hatch, 8, was coming home from the wedding with her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Wilder Hatch. They left Utah on Friday and were not in Wyoming until Friday afternoon.
A fund to help with medical expenses for the Hatch family has been set up at Big Horn Federal in Lovell.
The wedding reception for Don Alan and Korin Hatch will be as scheduled this evening, Thursday, Dec. 7, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Byorn Ward Cultural Hall.
Funeral services for Clinton Hatch, a 1992 graduated of Rocky Mountain High School, have tentatively been set for Saturday, Dec. 9, at 10 a.m. at the Lovell LDS Stakehouse. However, if Don Hatch has not been released from the hospital, the funeral will be postponed.

Funeral services were held in the Byron Chapel Friday afternoon for True Hatch who passed away last Tuesday moring after a lingering illness. The Cowley male quartette opened the service, singing "O My Father." The spirit of the occasion was beautifully expressed in the invocation offered by C. Golden Welch of Cowley: "With lashes wet and with hearts heavy but with gratitude for having known True Hatch we came here today." Bishop W. G. Stevens, who conducted the service, paid tribute to his neighbor and friend with whom he had worked and been in close association for many years. Merril B. Tew sang, "The Blind Plowman." Chas. B. Mann of Cowley, uncle of the deceased,read the obituary. A beautiful expression of love was voiced when Mrs. Thora Rollins, sister of True, sang "Rock of Ages." the gospel message was given by Bishop Frank Brown of Lovell, who used as his theme "The Way of Life." Mrs. Delilah Call, a niece, played a violin solo "Ave Marie." Frank Jones, a family acquaintance for 40 years, paid tribute to Wilder and Patty Hatch, to True and his sisters; and to the True Hatch family. Merril B. Tew sang the closing number "In the Garden of Tomorrow." Benediction was given by Sam Wilcox of Cowley.
True Hatch, son of Wilder and Patty Hatch was born July 13, 1902, one of the first Byron babies. His parents had arrived with the early settlers and had taken up a farm northest of Byron. While he was yet a small boy the father died leaving the mother and four small children. Sometime later the oldest boy, who wa eight years of age, passed away. The mother and her small children remained on the farm and it was there that the boy grew to manhood. He attended the Byron school. On Dec. 33, 1921 he married Fern Neilson of Cowley and to that union 6 children were born, Wilder, Myra, Irene, Patty Jean, deceased, Neil and Marlin. His father's home became his home. The later years he was employed by the Ohio Oil Company and continue to supervise the farm.
Besides his widow and children he is survived by two grandchildren, his mother Mrs. Patty H. Scott, and two sisters Mrs. Thora Rollins and Mrs. Delilah Brown.
The chaple was filled to its capacity and the many beautiful flowers attested to the esteem with which he and his family are held. He never went out of his way to make friends but in his quiet, genial manner he gathered them all along the way and they came from Powell, Cowley, Lovell, Greybull and Byron to pay him their last respects. The casket was covered with a lovely blanket spray made from the flowers which he and his wife had raised in their garden of flowers in the home yard.
Honorary pall bearers were B.A. Sessions, Louis Wolz, Bob Pryde, Roy Willey, Matt Cozzens, Gene Jones, John Jensen. pallbearers were Leo Hopkins, Jess Tebbs, Wallace Baird, Carlos Egan, Alanso Wolverton, Angus Vail, Archie Ames and Glen Johnson.
Burial was made at Byron.

June 26, 1922 -- Nov. 11, 1998Charles Freeman Hessenthalr, 76, died November 11, 1998, from complications following bypass heart surgery.
Charlie was the oldest son of Carl and Katie Hessenthaler. He was born June 26, 1922, in Basin, Wyo. He attended schools in Kane and Lovell, Wyo. In 1939 he joined the Wyoming National Guard. Following activation of his unit in World War II, he spent the next four years in the South Pacific. Charlie was a highly decorated survivor of numerous campaigns, receiving two purple hearts during his military career. The points Charlie received for combat allowed him to be the first Wyoming soldier to earn his discharge and to return home prior to the end of World War II.
Following the war he returned home where he married Norma Abraham on Jan. 17, 1947. There were sealed in the LDS Idaho Falls Temple in 1950. They farmed and worked for the Ohio Oil Campany until he wa appointd postmaster of the Byron post office in 1954. In addition to his job, he continued to operate a dairy and farm on the side.
Charlie served as a commissioner on the Sidon Irrigation Board and spent several years on the local draft board. Following retirement from the post office in 1984, he worked campaigns for the Western Sugar Company in Lovell. His summers were spent raising trout, apples and sweet corn. His sweet corn soon became known throughout the Big Hron Basin as "Charlie's Gourmet Sweet Corn."
Charlie decicated his life to his family and friends. He especially enjoyed atending and supporting his children and his grandchildren in their athletic events and other endeavors. Charlie was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in many different callings throughout the years.
He is preceded in death by his parents and four siblings, Erwin, Eugene, Paul (World War II), and Gertrude Dorey. He is survived by his wife Norma and five children and their spouses, Charles A. of Byron, Jack M. of Byron, Ruth Kay Lohrenz of Denver, Colo. Paul A. of Cody, and Kent A. of Thermopolis. He also leaves 24 grandchidren; 13 great-grandchildren; his brother, Walter Hessenthaler of Yakima, Wash. and five sisters, Bonnie (Minna) Franch of Casper, Rosealie Hentzel of Davenport, Iowa, Joyce Kobielusz of Sheridan, Jean Kimball of Yakima, Wash.; and Ruth Shaffer of Bend, Ore.
Our "Rock" and "Anchor" has gone on to prepare a place for us. Charlie, you will be missed.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Monday, Nov. 16, 1998, at the Byron Ward Chapel of the LDS Church with burial following in the Byron Cemetery.
Haskell Funeral Home of Lovell was in charge of arrangements.

Mortuary Services Held For InfantFuneral services for Christena Hitz, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Hitz of Byron were held Wednesday at two o'clock in the Haskell Mortuary with Bishop Ernest Jensen of Byron conducting.
The baby was born Feb. 19 at the Powell hospital and passed away the following day.
Orvel Allred offered the invocation. Floyd Allred gave some consoling remarks. Mrs. Phil Reasch sang "A Little Pink Rose." Benediction was given by Christian Hitz.
She is survived by her parents and two brothers, Michael and Kenneth Ray and a sister Joan; her materanal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Orvel Allred and a paternal grandfather, Christian Hitz.
Interment was in the Byron cemetery.

Bishop Elden Sanders of the Byron Ward conducted the services. Brook Abraham gave the opening prayer. Dee Ray Peterson gave the sermon. A vocal duet was sung by Michelle Dixon and Mary Croy. Chris Good gave the closing prayer and John Abraham dedicated the grave.
