Death of Joseph Till of Byron
Joseph Till, aged forty years, died suddenly from heart disease at B.C. Rumsey's Stock Farm last Thursday morning, says the Cody Enterprise.
Continuing, the Enterprise says: Mr. Till was driving one of the mowers in the hay field just south of the big cow barns. He went over to the barn where the carpenters were working and after getting a drink of water returned to his mower.
One of the workmen glanced up and saw him laying face down on the ground and the horses standing in the same spot. Not knowing what could be the matter they hurried over to him and found that he was dead. He had an oil can in his hand and when the shock struck him had probably been oiling the machine.
Dr. Bennett was summoned at once but there was no use - life was extinct. Mr. Till was a man about forty years old and one who was always considered healthy and robust. On the morning of his death those who were around him had no occasion for believing that there was anything wrong with him. On the contrary, he appeared to be in the best of conditions. His death was attributed to disease of the heart. The vital organ in the body of a man failed to do its part and life was gone.
Mr. Till leaves a wife and two children, a boy and a girl, to mourn his departure, all of whom are now living at Byron. They arrived at Cody Thursday night in company with Bishop Thomas of that place. Mr. Till's body was shipped to Byron and all returned there yesterday where the funeral was held on Sunday.
In religion Mr. Till was a member of the Mormon Church. He came into the Big Horn Basin several years ago from Idaho. Both he and his wife were born in Idaho and his parents were natives of London, England.
For the past two years he has been employed by B. C. Rumsey as carpenter. All of the buildings on the Shoshone ranch were constructed under his direction. Mr. Rumsey states that he never had a more conscientious, hard-working, or agreeable man on his place than Mr. Till.
"Nothing too good can be said of Joe Till," said Mr. Runsey. "We ought to have more men in this country like him. "
All of Mr. Till's friends have the same kind words of praise for his high character.
He also worked for D.E. Hollister and Jack Grayes on the North Fork, constructing several buildings for both men.
His death at this time is particularly unfortunate, as he had been working for several years away from his family in order to clear up a debt on his property near Byron. With one year more of hard labor he would have been entirely free from debt and he had intended to go back on his farm where he could live with his family and enjoy the care free country life.
The Enterprise as well as a host of other friends joins in extending their heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved wife and children. - Cody Enterprise.
