**************************************A Sketch of Byron Sessions' Life
BYRON SESSIONS was born November 7, 1851, in Salt Lake City, Utah. His parents, Perrigrine and Mary Call Sessions, were among the early pioneers to settle in the Salt Lake Valley.
At the age of eighteen he married Ida Twombly. They lived in a little log cabin in Bountiful, Utah. In 1872 they moved to Woodruff, Utah.
In February, 1900, Byron Sessions was one of a party of fourteen men called to make a trip to the Big Horn Basin, in view of the Mormon people settling there. After returning he was called by President Snow, and told that he had been recommended as a very good man to take charge of the construction of the canal to be taken out of the Shoshone River.
The town of Byron was named for Brother Sessions.
In the year of 1902, Byron Sessions was elected to the State Legislature for a term of two years.
Ida was sick off and on for five years and on November 20, 1925 she passed away.
After his wife passed away Byron Sessions moved back to Salt Lake and lived with his sister, Linnie Hepworth. In 1928 he made his last trip back to Byron. While in Byron his health started to fail so he returned to Salt Lake. At the advice of his doctors he went to the L.D.S. Hospital for treatment. His sister, Patti Scott, was alone with him when he passed away, the 5th of Jan 1928.
His body was sent back to Byron to be buried. There being a terrible epedemic of spinal meningitis throughout the stake, it was decided best not to hold a service at the church. Bishop Charles Jones conducted a short service at the cemetery and the body was laid to rest beside Sister Sessions.
Byron Sessions was the father of eleven children, ninety-four grandchldren, and forty-two great-grandchildren at the time of his death.

Came With Her Husband From Utah Twent-three Years Ago, Locating at Byron.
Word came to Powell last week of the death of Grandma Byron Sessions, a old-time resident of the Shoshone valley and known to everyone among the residents in the Mormon settlements.
In commenting on her life and characteristics the Cowley Progress says: "In this case death came as a welcome relief from suffering to a pain racked body, for dear old Grandma Sessions has been more or less an invalid, dating back some ten or twelve years when she was stricken with an illness which came near terminating her life.
"Sister Sessions was the mother of a large number of boys and girls, all husky and of splendid physique. She, with her husband, have several times been called upon to lead out or assist in the colonization of new frontiers. The last was their exodus form Woodruff, Utah, some 23 years ago. Mr. Sessions and his family were called to lead in the colonization of this part of the Big Horn basin. During this last colonization, Mrs. Sessions endured many hardships and privations, yet she never murmured or complained. She has been a patient sufferer and she was a most faithful wife and mother. So she has gone to a sure reward a long and peaceful rest, well earned and surely deserved."

Buried 27 Aug 1947 WednesdayFuneral Services were held in the Byron ward chapel last Wednesday afternoon, August 27th for Byron Arbury Sessions, who passed away at a Billings hospital Saturday, Aug. 23rd. Bishop W. G. Stevens conducted the services following an organ prelude by Mrs. Bruce Johnson of Lovell.
Invocation was by Farley Johnson; the opening song, "In the Time of Roses," was a trio number by Mrs. Thora Rollins, and Mrs. Frank Brown and Mrs. Preston Robertson, accompanied by Mrs. Bruce Johnson, all of Lovell; Mrs. Violet Mangus gave the obituary and paid high tribute to Mr. Sessions and his family; remarks were made by Bishop Stevens, who emphasized the deceased's kindness and hospitality; Nola Doty sang as a solo, "Prayer Perfect"; the sermon was given by Bishop Frank Brown of Lovell and was befitting to the occasion. The closing number was by the trio, "Going Home," and benediction was pronounced by Frank L. Jones.
Byron Arbury Sessions, son of Byron and Idella Win Twombly Sessions, was born Sept. 26, 1871 at Woods Cross, Davis county, Utah. He was one of a family of four boys and six girls and grew to manhood in an early pioneer Latter-Day Saint home. On Mar 28, 1891 he was married to Ellen Josephine Cox of Woodruff, Utah, and later this marriage was solomized in the Salt Lake temple. To this union was born thirteen childen, twelve of whom grew to maturity and ten are still living.
During their early married life, Mr. and Mrs. Sessions lived in a home which was bullt on the Utah-Wyoming state line, and the children have heard their father say that they ate in Utah and slept in Wyoming. Here Binnie was foreman of a cattle ranch, Slone, North & Sessions Live Stock company, and it was here that Oscar Quinn, champion rider taught Binney to be the horseman that he was. While riding the 100-mile range in Utah and Wyoming, Mr. Sessions had met Theodore Roosevelt.
On April 12th, 1900, Binney left Woodruff with a colony of Latter-day Saint settlers, arriving here May 28th. He was very useful to the colony on their journey ...ere helping to drive the livestock and also doing much of the cooking over campfires. The first camp after arriving here was made at the foot of Boyce hill near the river. Binney returned to Utah in July and brought back his wife and five children.
When the Sidon canal was built, he drove horse teams which pulled the scrapers. He herded the colonies livestock on the Powell flat and later worked on the railroad there. For three years Binnie operated the first mail route between Cody and Valley, Wyo. ...miles distant in the spring wagon and on horseback. A son, Otis, was born while living at the Valley ranch, Mar. 5. 1904.
A log house was built in town and later moved to the farm where the family has lived for many years. Not only was Binney a good and humble man, he was also a good entertainer. He did very well at singing cowboy songs and telling stories and jokes which were enjoyed by everyone near him. Another pioneer has left our midst and shall be greatly missed.
Three children preceded their father in death. They were Elgen Byron, Sylvia and Loy Corbett. Surviving are: his wife, Ellen Josephine, seven daughters, Mrs. Althea Hitz, Mrs. Essie Burge, Mrs. Wanneta McKinney, Mrs. Vera Griggs, all of Byron, Mrs. Zada Stone of Hyattville, Mrs. Exzelda Corbett of Worland and Mrs. Emma Boyce of Elk Basin; three sons, Marvin of Lovell, Otis of Byron and Glen of Oregon Basin. Also surviving was a brother Edward Sessions of Billings, four sisters, Mrs. Bertha Simmons of Oakley, Idaho, Mrs. Belva Morgan of Pouce Coupe, Canada, Mrs. Afton Jones of Byron, and Mrs. Elvena Smith of Shell; a half-sister, Mrs. Helen Wilcock of Lovell. Mr. and Mrs. Sessions had 48 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren.
The beautiful floral offerings bespoke the many friends these fine people have, and one of the largest gatherings ever held were at the services.

Her birthday was the same as the Prophet Joseph Samith's, and her birthplace was on the spot where the Utah State Capitol building now stands. Biney and Nell were among the first pioneers to the Big Horn basin country in 1900. Their family numbered six at this time, Vera was but three weeks old when they left their home in Utah and came here.
They settled on a small farm west of Byron, and there they built their home and reared their children. Her home is full of her lovely hand work, on floors, walls and furniture. She loved to crochet and knit and left countless beautiful articles.
Nell was a faithful Latter-Day Saint, doing willingly all she was asked to do in the ward. In later years she spent as much time and money as was possible doing temple work. Her latest trip was last September when Sam and Vera took her to Logan for that purpose.
Sister Sessions passed away April 22nd, 1953 at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Vera and Sam Griggs, after a long illness. Everything possible was done by all the family to make her happy and comfortable during this trying time.
