Funeral services for Mrs. Mabel W. B. Threet were held Monday afternoon in the West Ward LDS chapel, with First Councilor Elgen Brown conducting. The West Ward mixed chorus sang "Oh My Father," and Orlan Cox offered the invocation. Mr. and Mrs. Jake Adolph sang "The End of a Perfect Day," and Mrs. Maggie Vail read the obituary. Robert Smithson, a close friend of the family, gave a comforting sermon. "I Know My Redeemer Lives" was given by the chorus as the closing song, and Alma T. Brown pronounced the benediction.
Many lovely flowers were tangible expressions of the esteem in which Mrs. Threet and her family were held in this and neighboring communities.
Mable Wirth Brown was born May 22, 1889, in Assaria, Kans., eldest child in a family of seven, daughter of Frances and Automella Sargent Wirth. Her parents were converted to the LDS church and Mabel was baptized when she was ten years old, on May 23, 1899. The family moved to Byron in 1902, where they experienced all the hardships of pioneering in the newly settled community, besides building their own modest dwelling they were always willing to lend a hand where ever they found some one in need. When Mabel was only sixteen years old her father died, leaving the mother with the family of small children to support. Mabel went to work at this time to help care for them.
She worked for some time in a hotel in Garland later going to Basin to work. It was there she meet Oatis E. Brown, and they were married at her mother's home in Byron October 27, 1909. To this union six children were born, five of whom are living, one son having died in infancy. Mable and Oatis made their home in Basin for a time after their marriage. Then moved to Winterset, Iowa. They returned to Wyoming in 1914, making their home in Byron for several years. In 1920, they took up a homestead on the Deaver project where they lived until Oatis' ill health forced them to leave the farm and return to Byron where he passed away in 1930.
Mabel made a home for her children and reared them in Byron, where they attended school and took part in church and community life. After they were grown and married whe sold her home inByron, and when she was not employed, made her home with one or the other of her children.
She passed away on June 22, 1951, at the Powell hospital after a long illness. She is survived by five children, Robert O. Brown of Powell, Clyde E. Brown of Burbank, Calif., Mrs. Gertrude Christensen of Deaver, J. Frank Brown of Lovell and Mrs. Dorothy Mauch of Worland. Nineteen grandchildren and three sisters, Mrs. Annie Sholtz of Thermopolis, Mrss Nina Wirth and Mrs. Erma Jensen of Byron, and two brothers, James Wirth of Los Angeles, Calif., and Frances Wirth of Denver, Colo.
During her illness she spent a number of months at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Frank and Margaret Brown. She was taken to a Billings hospital for treatment, brought from there to Powell, stayed with Robert and family for a few days then taken to the Powell hospital where she spend the last week of her life with her sisters and members of her family in constant attendance at her bedside. Everything possible was done for her comfort and care.
Palbearers were Henry Adolph, Jake Adolph, Maurice Jensen, Dale Wirth, Harold Wirth, Chris Christiansen. Interment was in the Byron cemetery, under the direction of the Haskell funeral home.
A kind and loving mother and wife, and a good friend to those in need, she will be greatly missed. Her first husband preceded her in death some years ago and she later married Lem Threet, who survives her.
